Imagine our state from corner to corner discussing potential solutions to the constant stories of young shattered lives. OLYMPIA -- The State House of Representatives gave final approval Tuesday to a bill making it a crime for pubic school employees to have sex with students up to age 21.

The typical child sex offender molests an average of 117 children. The re-arrest rate for convicted child molesters is 52%. There are approximately 600,000 registered sex offenders in the US alone. The chance that your child will become a victim of a sex offender is 1 in 3 for girls & 1 in 6 for boys. Every 2 1/2 minutes, somewhere in America, someone is sexually assaulted.

The DOC said other Level III sex offenders were also among those released, but a spokesman said he didn't have further details... Eighty-three convicted criminals — including high-risk sex offenders and violent felons — have been released from two King County jails because they exceeded the total that the state Department of Corrections was allowed to place there... Duncan’s records show a series of failed treatments and refusal to comply with therapists and law enforcement officials who tried to correct his behavior, which mental health evaluators diagnosed in 1980 as consistent with an antisocial personality and a sexual deviant, the Seattle Times reported.
-Joseph Edward Duncan III December 2007 Dundan pleaded guilty to 10 federal felonies in Idaho and in January 2009 was extradited to California to face trial for the death of 10-year-old Anthony Michael Martinez.  “I do not blame the criminal justice system for anything…but the system does not work and I can tell them why. It doesn’t really matter why the crimes happened. I should be punished to the full extent of the law, as should all sex offenders and murderers.”

If I do escape, I promise you I will kill and rape and enjoy every minute of it,” -Westley Allen Dodd Dodd’s story is a cautionary tale for communities, law enforcement, and families. Although he killed three children, he plotted to murder and torture many more. (He claimed to have committed 250 crimes against children.) |
